The William E. Carmack Memorial Scholarship Committee will be holding our 2nd Annual Pasta Dinner Fundraiser on March 20, 2010 in Gales Ferry, Connecticut at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
To give you a brief introduction to the William E. Carmack Memorial Scholarship, I would like to take a moment to tell you about William Carmack. Deputy Chief William E. Carmack, known as Bill to all his friends and family, was a 17 year veteran volunteer firefighter of the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company. He passed away on March 17, 2007. Bill was an advocate for education and integrity, but he also stressed family and community. Among his many titles were Deputy Chief, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Retired United States Navy Chief Petty Officer, Coach, Teacher, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grand-Father. But more importantly, Bill was the one that everyone wanted to learn from. He taught with every sentence he spoke.
It is very important to us, his family, to continue his legacy. He loved learning and always wanted more education for each of us. This is what we want to pass on. The scholarship is offered to a deserving student who will be pursuing a degree in the Fire Sciences Field. For our first recipient, we awarded a $1,000 scholarship. We hope to do the same again this year and more if possible.
Thank You for your support and hope to see you at the Pasta Dinner!
